Karen Carroll
MS, CCNS, RN, CCRN, PCCN-K
Ms. Carroll has practiced as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for over 27 years in both intensive and progressive care units. Her graduate and undergraduate degrees are from San Diego State University (SDSU). She teaches both undergraduate and graduate students for SDSU. Ms. Carroll's clinical expertise is in pain management, resuscitation, cardiac, pulmonary, and ECG analysis. She has published on a variety of topics including hemodynamics, pain in the critically ill and heart failure. Ms. Carroll frequently presents locally and nationally on a variety of topics related to the care of the acute and critically ill. She has the ability to present advanced concepts in an easy to understand manner. Ms. Carroll is an enthusiastic educator who uses current clinical experiences to emphasize important course content.
MEET THE TEAM…
Nurse Shana graduated from USC (University of Southern California) in 2004 with her BSN. She has 15+ years as a bedside RN in an ICU setting. Shana and Karen worked together previously in a mixed MICU/SICU. They shared a true passion for nursing and education. Currently she works part time as an Operational Supervisor in San Diego CA and part time in a mixed MICU/SICU unit. She recently graduated with her MBA from CSUSM (Cal State University San Marcos) and is currently helping Karen with marketing and the tech side of CertifedRN.com. She also teaches the neuro/trauma portion on the CCRN/PCCN courses.
Court the Adventurer/Entrepreneur -Karen’s son, a passionate and personable marketing and event consultant, outstanding in customer service and sales, graduated from CSUSM (Cal State University San Marcos) in 2013 with a BA in communications. Although not a Registered Nurse, Court has a deep love for health, wellness and safety. Court served as a Lifeguard and EMT for the City of San Diego from 2011-2018. Dedicated to his career as a lifeguard, Court was a Lead Field Manager, an Adjunct trainer for lifeguard trauma and extraction education. He completed his emergency medical technician training in 2015. Court recently moved to New Zealand with his wife, were they are taking on new adventures.
Jamie the DNP- Karen’s daughter, followed closely in her mothers foot steps. Proudly taking on the responsibility as Class President during her nursing education at Baylor University, Jamie graduated in 2009 with her BSN. With her critical care background, she became a joint educator with Karen for numerous CCRN/PCCN courses they successfully held. Jamie desired to learn more, looking for an advance role in the nursing profession. In 2017, she graduated with her DNP from USD (University of San Diego). Currently she is dedicated to her patients as she works as a Nurse Practitioner within her community.
